(traduction plus tard, je suis en pleine période d'exam !)
Hello to all Maximo-ites,
We're in the homemade studio right now, working on the new record.
So, you may ask, what have we been doing with our lives?
Well, the past month or so has been one of the trickiest months since our inception, from a creative point of view, but over the last few weeks I think we've found a new focus and energy as far as our songs are concerned. We ended up wondering how to move forward but still retain the best parts of what we've already done. After the last album we could've gone in a number of directions but this week the word pop has been used liberally, which helps inject a more playful aspect into the writing process.
It feels like we are in a pretty strong position now, before we move into summer. Hurrah!
Live-wise, we had a massive show at the Forum this week for two charities: The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, which suffered at the hands of a recent fire, and No Surrender, which was set up to help young adults diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.
The audience were given a taste of what we've been concocting in our musical laboratory and one member was so excited he gave me a hefty bruise on my arm after a bizarre, onstage rugby tackle. Where were security, eh? A big shout-out to Gav and Alex, our faithful roadies, who escorted my new best mate from the stage.
Then we went onwards to Germany overnight, via massive traffic jams and fuel blockades to play a hot show in the shadow of an actual Monument.
Hmmm, I wonder where they got the idea for that setting...? Answers on a postcard of a painting to Archis Tiku, Bass Monster, Teek's House, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4 TENN 15.
Yes, I am a geek.
And a cheese-meister.
Festival-wise, there's some generous spots in, to name but two, Germany and Spain, as you can see below. If you don't live there, then spend your overdraft on a plane ticket and come along. Don't tell the person who pays the bills. Just come. And we will rock for your pleasure. Seriously though, it's a real buzz to be onstage and to be back out there, pop-pickers.
And, just to prove our love for the game, I'd like to announce the small offering of a gig in Edinburgh on the 18th of August. A number of Scots have asked if we were doing any festivals in the highlands, but we've played T in the Park quite a few times in a row, so maybe next year, after a break, the Scottish crowds will be in a frenzy (a voice in my head says 'maybe not, you idiot')...
In the meantime, to placate and pulsate, we'll be back in the 'Burgh for one neet only. See below for details.
